Not always the protagonists of these stories are the author, for sure he cannot be a superhero, and maybe he is not even the son of a pastor, but maybe he had a boy next door he was in love with, or maybe he had a friend he was never able to openly talk to until it was too late. Among the Wicked is the latest entry in the series and, although it could be read and enjoyed as a stand alone novel, new readers should definitely start with the first book in the series.This time the author moves the story away from the small town of Painters Mill, Ohio and takes Chief Kate Burkholder undercover inside an uber strict Amish community in upstate New York. Had it not been for that, his genius might have gone to waste, and who knows what future inventions the world would miss? Perhaps this book should be required reading in American schools, so kids here will know just how lucky they are to have such good educational opportunities. The severe drought and lack of food at White Sands had made their long-term survival extremely problematic. The personal sacrifice and dedication created a powerful visual of the great care and genuine concern he and others had for the wild horses and foals' safety. My 3 1/2 year old really likes this book and I liked it too. This is only relevant to the book in that he
